14.30 - Guided tour of the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum
An altogether singular painter, Albi-born Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) was a skilled portraitist who also excelled in poster design which he ushered into the modern age with his ground-breaking graphic ideas.
Comprising early paintings, major portraits, lithographs and posters illustrating late 19th century life in Paris, the museum’s public collection of works by the painter from Albi is the largest in the world.
16.00 - Free time or choose between a guided tour of the Lapérouse Museum or a ride on the little tourist train
19.30 - Private guided tour of Sainte-Cécile Cathedral
An iconic landmark of the city of Albi, Sainte-Cécile Cathedral is altogether impressive by its sheer size.
Built from 1282 onwards, it is a striking masterpiece of the militant Southern Gothic architectural style developed to assert the Catholic Church’s authority over the heretical Cathars.
Its fortress-like exterior belies its opulently decorated interior... For once inside, a remarkable décor awaits, including the largest representation of the Last Judgement from the Middle Ages (15th c.), a rood screen separating the nave from the choir (15th c.), 16th-century frescoes and a great organ (1734-1736) of stupendous dimensions.
20.30 – Presentation of the organs by Frédéric Deschamps, appointed organist of the great historic organs of Sainte-Cécile Cathedral, followed by a concert.
20.45 – Leave for the dinner venue
